What do you mean when you say Morris is a SaaS-based model?
SaaS stands for Software as a Service. A SaaS-based application is hosted by a third party such as Moneris, and is provided to customers across the Internet. Unlike traditional software, SaaS applications such as Morris are not downloaded and installed on a customer’s hard drive, which alleviates the burden of software maintenance, ongoing operation, and support for the customer. In Morris’ case, after initial set-up you simply pay a monthly subscription fee for online access to the software.

What happens if my Internet connection goes down? Will I still be able to process my customers’ payments?
In the event that you are not able to connect to Morris over the Internet, an offline backup mode provides you with a simplified version of the cash register view so you can process cash, gift, cheque and credit transactions and record the products that were purchased. While you are in offline mode, the system keeps track of all offline transactions so that your inventory and sales data can be updated once you are back online.

How does Morris differ from most other POS technology solutions?
Most of the POS solutions out there are geared at large retail enterprises, meaning higher technology cost and greater complexity. Moreover, many solutions are based on the client/server model, which means that you need to install the software on your computer and worry about data loss and protection. Not only that, but you would also need to continue purchasing the software in order to obtain the latest versions.

How is Morris different than a cash register?
Morris functionality far exceeds that of a standard cash register. While you can use Morris to perform basic cash register functions, Morris also enables you to do so much more, including:
- Inventory Management: Morris helps you track and manage your inventory, so you can eliminate time-consuming paper-based tracking, reduce errors and determine when the stock is running low. With a cash register you would not know when your stock is running low unless you walked around the store and looked at your shelves. By this point you might even run out of stock.
- Insightful Customer Management: Morris allows you to enhance customer service and relationships by enabling you to access purchase histories and assign automatic discounts to your preferred customers. With a cash register you would likely keep paper records of your customers, which can be onerous and messy.
- Robust Reporting: Morris enables you to boost your analytical and business planning capabilities so you can stay on top of your business better. A cash register only provides journals and simple end-of-day reports.
- Efficient Integrated Payment Processing*: To accept debit and credit payments with a cash register, you would need to ring up your sale on the cash register first and then enter the transaction details into a separate terminal. That means double entry for your and your staff, and a higher likelihood of errors. Morris helps you streamline the checkout process.
- Convenient Remote Access: Unlike with a cash register, with Morris you can login from your home computer or another off-site location to check on sales, make updates and manage your business.

Do I have to use Moneris for payment processing with Morris?
No. However, there are several advantages to using Moneris as your all-in-one integrated service provider for both your software and your payment processing. For example, it would eliminate the need for a separate POS terminal. You would simply need to plug the PIN pad provided into your computer. Furthermore, it would eliminate the need for the manual re-entry of credit and debit transactions into a separate POS terminal, thereby reducing the risk of error since you only need to enter transaction details once.
